Together we are stronger
When I saw that we were going to work with 40 participants, I knew one thing for sure: this is going to be tough. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method is most powerful in smaller groups, so that everyone has space to build, share and reflect. But the entire Veildomein had to be able to participate—and I really wanted to make that possible.
That is why I took three colleagues with me in advance in the basis of the method. No long training, but simply: together at the table, explaining the essence, practicing, and feeling what it is like to guide a group through such a process. During the workshop they each took a subgroup under their wing and helped the participants step by step through the program.
That turned out to be worth its weight in gold. Because they monitored the process and asked the right questions, everyone was able to participate in their own way. Valuable conversations arose in the groups, people learned from each other, and the building remained focused. Without them, it would never have been possible to raise so much in one day with such a large group.
The workshop setup started with skills building, so that everyone became familiar with building with LEGO®. Then each group was asked: What functionalities are included in this application? From there, individual models were built, which were eventually merged into one shared group model of the application. Each team presented their build to the other groups, providing insight into the overall landscape.
What I found particularly special was how quickly people got into the flow. There was not only building, there was laughing, discussing and really listening. And the result? A visual 3D landscape in which the most important applications and their functionalities came to life—built by the people who work with them every day.
